Camplazens means Camp of Pleasure, a spontaneous military Bacchanal that erupted whenever Roman troops camped on the vine-clad limestone outcrop of La Clape near Narbonne. In 2000, hedonistic English ex-pats Susan and Peter Close followed the legionnaires lead, acquiring their dream seaview vineyard set among herb-scented scrubland (garrigue). Organic viticulture and low yields are the order of the day at this idyllic estate. Their début Grenache was highly praised by Decanter. "Seductive and sexy nose - almost in a Burgundian Pinot fashion. Very dense fruit on the palate but in a well-balanced way." Wine & Spirit, May 2008
