2005 Vinha Maria Teresa, Quinto do Crasto, Douro
Filed under: Quinta do Crasto

15 Aug |

We were the first to beat a path to Miguel Roquette's ex-Roman fort ('castrum'), high above the Douro. In 1994 he sagely drafted in top Australian consultant David Baverstock who forged a cast-iron plan for realising the potential of Crasto's centuries-old vineyards. Crasto's 90-year-old Maria Teresa vineyard is a veritable museum piece, planted to over 30 varieties. Two years in American and French oak- ageing and the result is this: an incredibly rich, dense dry style with voluminous black fruit.

Deliciously intense, powerful, pepper-edged Port that lives up to the award-winning reputation of this pioneering outfit. We were the first to beat a path to Miguel Roquette's ex-Roman fort ('castrum'), high above the Douro. In 1994 he sagely drafted in Australia's David Baverstock (top consultant and winemaker to Sir Cliff) who forged a cast-iron plan for realising the potential of Crasto's centuries-old vineyards.
